SPOTLIGHT: Leasiah Beth Makor

       

Leasiah Beth Makor is an upcoming Liberian fashion designer. Before relocating to the United States, Beth lived in Tappita Town, and Monrovia. She currently lives in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania. Beth is studying for her  undergraduate degree in exercise science at Shippensburg University, and is expected to have her degree in May of 2011.
        At the early age of seven, Beth knew she wanted to become a fashion designer. She was inspired by a local handicap tailor in Liberia. Years later, Beth's dream is finally becoming a reality. Since 2005, Beth has  put in tremendous amount of work to make her dream come through. Beth's clothing Afrik-Stai is aimed to empower women in  a chic,elegant, and sexy way. It is designed to show the beauty of a woman's body.
      Beth's accomplishments include the YesLiberia fashion show; where her designs were showcased. The African Student Association of Shippensburg annual fashion show where I had the opportunity to wear one of her garments. Lastly, the Statewide annual fashion show.
       For anyone out there interested in becoming a fashion designer Beth has advice for you." Follow your dreams no matter what" , "Have Determination",and "Perseverance is key". Beth has several plans for Liberia. She wants to open a mall in Liberia which will feature a store with her clothing line, and many other stores. Beth also plan on creating a television show called " Liberia's Next Top Designer". With the show she can provide an opportunity for Liberians in Liberia to showcase their talent, and make their dreams  a reality.

A Friendly Reminder

This blog audiences varies. However, the intended  audiences of this blog are Liberians. But, it's not limited to only Liberians. With that being said I will like to bring to the attention of my readers the Liberia Election 2011. In 2008 Barack Obama  change the surface of politics. He got the youth involve with the election process. He give many of us a better understanding of  how we can  play a role in a the decision making of the government. I personally got to meet Mr.Obama, and I must say he was very empowering.  Many of us were strong supporters of Obama, watching presidential debates and townhouse meetings. As Liberians we can do the same for our country. As Liberians, whether old or young it 's our obligation to get involve in the decision making of our country. And there is no better time than the 2011 elections. Yes, many of us many not be able to vote because we are not presently in Liberia, but we can use social networks to provide our input in this election. Many of us couldn't vote in the 2008 US presidential elections,but that didn't stop us from getting involved. Many may think that because they do not live in Liberia so whatsoever decision made in the election doesn't affect them. But that is wrong regardless what part of the world you are; Liberia is your country and the people of Liberia is the reflection of you. In a later blog I will present the candidates of the 2011 elections.
